Bing slated to take over Yahoo organic search

Bing slated to take over Yahoo organic search in August / September 2010!

Yahoo and Bing have been performing offline trials on a affiliation of sorts in the search engine market. On Thursday, July 15th, 2010, they announced that they would move this offline test to practical application. The changes will heavily impact those who are ranked well in Yahoo, but not ranked well in Bing. Bing's engine will be running the organic search, while Yahoo's SEM platform will continue to govern paid searches. With the alliance of the #2 & #3 search engine providers, they are expected to account for no less than 30% of overall search engine traffic. While Google still holds the lion’s share of the search engine traffic (65%+/-), this modification will definitely impact any sites which hold high value in Yahoo, but fail to hold the same value in Bing.

Yahoo sent advertiser letters reflecting the pending change on Thursday. This announcement verified that they expected Bing's search engine to take over the Yahoo organic search in August/September if all goes well.

Historically, Yahoo has made poor decisions on their organic SERPs, causing even loyal fans to exit stage left. This problem stems directly from their algorithms not processing the information competitively or with the speed that has been seen in the Google platform. Bing on the other hand created a very logical engine that is very accurate as search engines go, but which has not reached the accreditation necessary to compete even though Microsoft launched a very aggressive advertising campaign at its introduction. Google while still expected to control the market, has not been without its own set of challenges. Most notably, Googles lack of transparency and failure to address the democratic methodology of "he who buys the most links..wins".

Time will tell how this all plays out, but if you’re a Yahoo search fan, then it's time to look at how your sites rank in Bing! This author is left with one question however; what will become of BING?
